EJ in Permitting Town Hall - Hampton Roads

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is developing an updated draft of its Environmental Justice in the Permitting Process Guidance. The guidance will outline how DEQ will consider principles of environmental justice when the agency makes permitting decisions. Updating this memo is a step in the right direction in preventing new sources of pollution from being built in fenceline, environmental justice communities that are already bearing a disproportionate pollution burden.
